Start packing the bags? The Wednesday Night Wars started up back in October 2019 and have been running mostly regularly ever since. NXT has gone head to head with AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night with Dynamite in the lead most weeks, but not every single time. It has been an interesting series of clashes but now we might not be seeing the situation for that much longer.
One of the interesting aspects to the Wednesday Night Wars is how closely they follow their original Monday counterparts. This even comes all the way down to the networks where the shows are broadcast, with TNT and USA both being involved in both instances. That has been the case so far, but now things might be changing quite a bit for NXT in the near future.
NBC, by way of Deadline.com, has announced that they will be shutting down the NBC Sports Network by the end of 2021 and moving live broadcasts of NASCAR races and NHL games to the USA network. As a result, there is a chance that a broadcast of either could cause NXT to be moved to another time or night. Monday Night Raw could be potentially changed as well as NASCAR has been a Monday night presentation from NBC Sports Network for years. However, Monday Night Raw is USA’s highest rated programming and has not been preempted since the show returned to the network.
Opinion: This is something that very well could change into something else in the future but for now it could be something that makes you wonder about what is going to happen. If nothing else, it might be nice to have NXT move to another night. It’s great to have some direct competition like this, but it can also be nice to not have to watch both shows back to back if you want to see both of them on the same night.
