It’s annoying! For well over ten years now, WWE has been presented as a TV-PG product. This has not always been the most popular move for fans as it has led to criticisms of WWE being too kid friendly instead of adult oriented. There have been some moves towards more adult content, but the shows remain TV-PG. It seems that WWE wants to make the switch to a higher level though, and it is at least partially due to one specific reason.
According to the Bryan and Vinny Show, one of the reasons that WWE wants to switch to TV-14 is to avoid having to censor some crowd chants. That was the case this week during NXT Heatwave as the crowd changed “HOLY S***!” more than once, which had to be edited, causing the audio to be muted every few seconds. There is no word on when or if WWE TV will be moving to TV-14 in the future.
Opinion: This is one of those things that might not seem obvious but it is the kind of annoyance that WWE has to deal with on occasion. Having to mute the crowd would be irritating when what they say is beyond WWE’s control. Making the move to TV-14 is not quite the same thing as removing all of the rules and going full throttle with everything being completely adult content, but it might be a bit of a relief for WWE.
What do you think of WWE’s reasoning? Will the TV shows be changed to a higher rating? Let us know in the comments below.
