That’s a lot. WWE has long since established itself as the biggest wrestling promotion in the world and that puts them in a unique spot. This means that other major entities are going to want to do business with them, which can lead to quite the lucrative financial reward. They are still doing it this year after seeing them do it last year, though now we know a bit more about just how much WWE brought in.

The 2023 Royal Rumble took place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. According to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, the city provided WWE with over $500,000 in incentives. This is said to be on the same level that St. Petersberg/Clearwater, Florida provided for the 2024 edition of the show. The 2023 edition is said to have brought $69 million in local economic benefits while the 2024 edition brought in $47 million.

Opinion: This is about as clear of an illustration as you could ask for of why WWE does things the way they do. The company has found a way to make money and large cities are willing to hand them a lot of money to bring their shows to town, where they can make even more money. The cities are getting a huge bang for their buck and that is why you are going to see this happen for a good while to come.
