Unscripted can be AWESOME. Odds are you remember last year’s debut episode of “Talking Smack” where Miz cut an incredible promo on Daniel Bryan, going into a rant and a half about how Bryan kept getting injured and leaving the company. It was almost universally revered and with good reason. Now some more details have emerged on the promo which make things even more interesting.

Miz recently spoke with Fox Sports and spoke about the promo, during which he revealed quite a big surprise.

“You guys are getting an exclusive here, I don’t think I’ve ever told this. So here was my day up to that point: I wasn’t written on the episode that day and I’m the Intercontinental champion. This is the title that I’ve loved since I was a child, and I don’t want to be the guy who says, ‘I’m going to make it great,’ and then not do anything. I want to make it great.

“So I told them to put me on ‘Talking Smack.’ They asked, ‘Well what are you going to do?’ And I said I’m going to rip into Daniel Bryan. And then I guess I kind of went overboard. And when I go, I have no filter. It’s everything that is fueling inside of me and I just black out.’”

That led to Bryan walking off set, which was a bit different than originally planned.

“He actually left. I didn’t expect him to leave — I expected him to hit me. The things I was laying in to him on were very below the belt and very mean and very rude, but when I go, I just go.”

Opinion: This really doesn’t surprise me as I can’t imagine Miz reading this speech off a script and turning it into something like this. Miz gave this promo so well because it’s something he can identify with. He’s been treated as a reality star guy who is just wrestling because it seems fun. How many times do you think he’s thought about all those criticisms and how wrong he thinks they are? This was him letting all those frustrations out on camera and it worked so well because it was real to him.

The Miz completely loses it in the face of GM Daniel Bryan: WWE Talking Smack, Aug. 23. 2016
