It isn’t for everyone. One thing that every wrestler wants is an angle of their own. That may not be the easiest thing in the world for everyone as there are only so many stories to go around. Every now and then though, a wrestler gets put into a story but it does not exactly fit. That was the case late last year and now we know why things did not exactly stick around.

Back in August, Retribution debuted on Monday Night Raw and soon became a rather unique group. The team would appear on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown and attack various people in rather large numbers. Eventually this was pared down a bit and a core group emerged. However, one of the members quickly disappeared and there is a reason for the switch.

Mercedes Martinez was one of the original members of the team, wrestling under the name of Retaliation but left after only a few weeks. In an interview with PWInsider.com, Martinez said that she left as she did not like the way the angle was going and requested to be removed, saying that the two sides wanted two different things. Martinez said that she wanted to make the most of her career after twenty years in wrestling and did not want to be part of something that did not fit her. There is no word on backstage heat on Martinez, who has since returned to NXT TV.

This suits her better. Check out what Martinez is doing in NXT:

Opinion: It might sound a bit out there from Martinez but I can understand the idea. She is not likely to have much time left in the ring and she probably does not want to waste a lot of the time she has left in an angle where she might not have much of a future. Retribution has not exactly been well received and having Martinez as a monster down in NXT might work a bit better for everyone involved.
