They didn’t have time. The last few weeks have been among the busiest in recent wrestling history. There has been one major story after another with some of them being rather serious and far less than positive. It seems like you cannot go more than a day without having something else happen, to the point where another major announcement had to be pushed to later in the schedule.

This week on AEW Dynamite, it was announced that AEW President Tony Khan would make an announcement on the February 7 episode. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the announcement was originally going to be made on the January 27 edition of Collision, which would have been airing against the Royal Rumble. The announcement was postponed due to the release of a lawsuit against Vince McMahon. It is not clear what the announcement will be.

Opinion: This is something that does make sense as the McMahon lawsuit dominated headlines last week. Throw in the WWE deal with Netflix and the Royal Rumble and AEW would have needed the mother of all announcements to make the slightest dent in the news cycle. It was a good idea for AEW to wait and hopefully the announcement, whatever it is, gives AEW some positive publicity.
