That does make sense when you think about it. Earlier this week, Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE and was immediately given a shot against WWE Champion Kofi Kingston for the October 4 episode of SmackDown Live. This is the first episode on FOX and things are going to need to be big. As it turns out though, FOX may have had an idea of their own behind the match.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea behind the match may be that FOX wants a more sports themed feeling to the show and Lesnar is viewed as a more legitimate athlete. WWE and FOX could both want Lesnar to be champion to give the title a more realistic feeling as Lesnar is someone with a successful background in all sports outside of professional wrestling. There is a chance Kingston could retain, or that the match could be moved elsewhere, as has been the case with Lesnar’s previous advertised TV matches.

This doesn’t look good for the champ. Check out Lesnar challenging Kingston:

Opinion: I really can’t imagine a world in which Kingston retains the title. He has held the thing for over five months now and that is longer than most people probably would have bet on him being champion. I don’t see the need to keep it on him much longer, and while Lesnar as champion is completely played out from a WWE fan’s perspective, it makes a lot of sense from FOX’s perspective.
