It’s not as random as it seems. This week’s Monday Night Raw saw a rather long Tag Team Turmoil match with the winners receiving a Tag Team Title shot against Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman at Clash Of Champions. The match included eight teams, with seven of them being established and one being a makeshift team. The makeshift team wound up winning, and it turns out there was a good reason for it.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the new team of Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler won Tag Team Turmoil because they were the best options to give Strowman a good match. Strowman’s in-ring skills are not considered the best so having Roode and Ziggler in the ring can help make the match better. Roode and Ziggler have yet to have a regular tag match as a team.
They have a reason of their own. Check out Ziggler and Roode’s comments after becoming #1 contenders:
Opinion: The theory makes sense, but at the same time, Strowman isn’t the kind of guy who needs to be having regular matches. He can have a match where he just destroys people with the power moves, which makes me wonder why WWE would rather spend so much of their time trying to turn him into a more traditional wrestler. Let Strowman be the monster that he can be.
