History has been made! Despite all of the success that they have had, AEW has still not been around all that long. They have made some great strides in a limited time but it is still one of the younger top level companies in the wrestling world today. That being said, what they have done so far is rather impressive but they still have a lot of history to make. Some of that was accomplished this week.
One of AEW’s greatest strengths is in its talent roster. The company has all kinds of incredible wrestlers from around the world with varying levels of experience and exposure. That mixture has done very well for them all and it gives them an impressive roster that can match up against anyone. Now one of the biggest stars in the company has reached the very top.
Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to become the new AEW World Champion this week on AEW Dynamite. Omega won the match with an assist from Impact Wrestling’s Don Callis, who was on commentary for the match. The win makes Omega the third World Champion in the company’s history, following Moxley and Chris Jericho. Omega is one of the company’s executive vice presidents and became #1 contender by defeating Hangman Page in a tournament final at Full Gear last month.
You might have to get used to this. Check out Omega’s time in AEW:
Opinion: They had to do something like this sooner or later as it is kind of hard to keep going with Omega as the designated ace before putting the title on him. Omega is one of the most successful in-ring stars in the world today and it is cool to see him getting a chance like this. I’m not sure what this is going to mean with the Callis situation, but the important thing is Omega won, as he needed to at this point.
