One more time? There are all kinds of wrestling promotions in the world but only a handful of ways to present them. That makes for some interesting situations as promotions try to find a way to make things work in a different way. These things can wind up with varying levels of success, which was the case with a promotion that found a cult following but wind up going away. It just might not be for good.
Back in 2014, a new promotion called Lucha Underground debuted and fans immediately knew that it was different. It made for some interesting situations, as the promotion was completely over the top with all kinds of insanity, including Aztec tribes, monsters, demons and various wrestlers being killed off. The concept was rather interesting to watch, but it was ultimately canceled after four seasons. Now we might be seeing a little bit more.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been discussions of bringing back Lucha Underground in a different way. While the promotion will be under a different name, it will include some of the same concepts. Several names from Lucha Underground, including Rey Mysterio, Taya Valkyrie, John Morrison, Ricochet, the Lucha Bros and more have all signed elsewhere. Major League Wrestling has recently begun a storyline involving a group called Azteca Underground which holds some similarities to Lucha Underground.
There were some interesting ideas. Check out how the original version worked:
Opinion: I would be a little surprised if Lucha Underground came back full time, though I could certainly go for something short term. Let us see what is going on there, if nothing else for the sake of tying up some of the loose ends. It could be rather interesting to see how things could have been, as Lucha Underground was certainly something unique and I could go for an epilogue.
