When the boss speaks. Wrestling is a huge industry worldwide but there is no one more powerful than Vince McMahon. While he might not be as active on television as he once was, no one comes close to the amount of power and influence that he has in the sport. There are other companies besides his, but what happens when McMahon talks about one of them?

The biggest story from 2019 was the rise of AEW. The company went from an idea/a t-shirt company and has become the second biggest wrestling company in the country with a huge television contract on TNT. WWE has tried to counter AEW’s Dynamite with NXT to some mixed results. It is clear that AEW has WWE’s attention though and that was the case again on Thursday.

McMahon was asked about AEW during Thursday’s investor’s conference call, with the caller bringing up how AEW has changed the way WWE presents its product. In response, McMahon said that nothing was changed because it was all about what WWE was doing involving storylines, characters and resolutions. He also talked about how the show being PG was important to its success and how he was confident in NXT going forward.

And you can hear it too. Check out the question and answer (the audio is not the best):

Opinion: That’s the kind of answer you would have to expect and there is nothing wrong with that. McMahon can’t say that they’re running scared (as they don’t seem to be) and promoting the good things that WWE is doing at the moment makes sense. While Dynamite has won most of the weeks, they are not undefeated and they aren’t running away with the audience. That may change, but for now, NXT is slowing them down well enough.
