Not so much? There are certain matches that take place every year around the same time and can often lead to major events down the line. These are the matches that often receive the most hype because the stakes are so high. Winning such a match can be a game changer for a wrestler’s career, but now a wrestler’s claim that he was scheduled to win one of them is being called into question.

Earlier this week, Matt Riddle claimed that he was possibly scheduled to win the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble, only to have Brock Lesnar win the match instead after pushing to do so. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Riddle was “never considered seriously at any point” to win the match. It is not clear how far in advance WWE had decided Lesnar would win the match. Riddle was released from WWE in September 2023.

Riddle had quite a run in WWE. Check out some of his time with the company:

Opinion: While I can accept the idea that Riddle’s name might have been floated as a potential winner, I’m not sure I can get behind the idea of Riddle being chosen as the definitive winner and then changing plans the day of the show. Stranger things have happened in WWE, but that feels like something of a stretch. Riddle very well may believe it to be the case, but that doesn’t quite mean it’s what happened.

What do you think of Riddle’s claims? Who should win this year’s Royal Rumble matches? Let us know in the comments below.
