They had an idea for that. We are less than a week removed from WrestleMania 40 and the show end with Cody Rhodes defeating Roman Reigns to become the new WWE Universal Champion. The match saw Rhodes need help to defeat Reigns, including some legends making appearances. It turns out that one such appearance was not the original plan for the match.

Near the end of the match, The Rock interfered on Reigns’ behalf. This resulted in the Undertaker appearing and taking Rock out with a chokeslam. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was for Steve Austin to come out and give Rock a Stunner. The two sides were unable to come to financial terms, resulting in the Undertaker taking Austin’s place.

It was a big one. Check out Undertaker’s interference and Austin vs. Rock at WrestleMania:

Opinion: With the amount of money that WWE has at this point, it makes me wonder if Austin simply gave a price that said he didn’t want to do this. If that is the case, or if Austin was just not interested for whatever reason, there is nothing wrong with that. He has no real connection to the story, so why did he need to be there? Undertaker was a nice moment and at least faced Reigns at WrestleMania before, so it could have been worse.
