Well it worked for Flair. Women’s wrestling has come a long way in the last few years but that might not have been possible without the efforts of some of the legends that came before this generation. There were a lot of women who put in some serious work to get this far and some of them are still around today. Now though, one of them seems ready to hang it up, but she has something to do first.

This week on Impact Wrestling, Mickie James announced that she is ready to walk away from wrestling but wants to see if she still has it first. Therefore, James announced that she is starting at the bottom and trying to work her way back up to the Knockouts Title. However, the first time she loses on the way there, she will end her career. It is not clear if she will continue to wrestle should she win the Knockouts Title. This is similar to Ric Flair’s retirement story from 2007/2008, where Vince McMahon ordered him to retire the next time he lost a match.

Opinion: This is the kind of story that is always going to work as James’ Last Rodeo (as she dubbed it) should make for a good, hopefully long road out of the ring. James is a living legend and can still have a good to great match with just about anyone. Let her give some other wrestlers a rub on her way out and see how big of an emotional impact she can make as she hangs up her boots.

What do you think of the story? Who should be James’ final opponent? Let us know in the comments below.
