That’s a big start. WrestleMania is the most important night of the year and the main event is often the biggest match on the WWE calendar. Being on the show in any spot is a special moment, but aside from the main event, there is only one spot on the card that traditionally stands out in a meaningful way. That is the opening match, and now we know what is kicking off the weekend.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s On: Grudge Match Officially Set For WrestleMania 39 After Months Of Buildup
This week on SmackDown, WWE announced that John Cena challenging Austin Theory for the United States Title will open Night One of WrestleMania 39 on Saturday April 1. This is the first time that Cena will wrestle in the opening match at WrestleMania since 2004, when he defeated Big Show for the United States title. So far, most of the WrestleMania matches have not been assigned a night.

Opinion: This is quite the announcement and it is great to see Cena getting a spot like this where he can do what he does best: fire up a crowd. The opening match at WrestleMania is a special enough spot and it should be interesting to see what happens with this year’s edition. Theory vs. Cena has some potential and now we should be in for a heck of a showdown for the ittle.
