He’s been there. AEW has made quite the impact in the wrestling world during its still short existence. During that time they have become the second biggest wrestling promotion in the world and gotten a lot of people talking about what they do. Not all of the reactions have been positive though and now a wrestling legend is voicing his opinions about a major mistake he feels AEW made.
During a recent edition of his Kliq This podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Kevin Nash took issue with CM Punk losing the AEW World Title to Jon Moxley in a match that ran about three minutes. Nash said:
“They roped me in with f****** CM Punk vs Moxley. What they’re doing over is the f****** thing I hate which is, they’re booking for the smarts and if you’re smart then you already know there is no way CM Punk would kick with a foot that was injured to reinjure himself, and go down and cut the match short.”
Punk would go on to win the title back from Moxley less than two weeks later at All Out, making him the second two time World Champion in AEW history. Following the show, Punk would go on a rant at the AEW media scrum, as well as allegedly get in a fight with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks.
Opinion: While Nash might not be someone whose opinion on bad booking will be well received, he brings up an interesting point. AEW certainly has its own style of booking and I’m not sure if it is going to work for everyone. Some of the things they do seem set up for a very specific audience and that can create some issues for people not in that group.
