Stick around a bit? AEW’s roster has been one of the keys to its success. The company has a mixture of established stars, up and coming talents and legends. That is the kind of group that can make for all kinds of combinations, many of which have been seen already. Now some of of the top names might be sticking around, even though it might not be their decision.
Last week, AEW announced that the World and Trios Titles were officially vacated due, reportedly due to their role in a backstage brawl. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW may add nine to ten months on to Kenny Omega’s contract due to both his role in the brawl and his hiatus due to a series of surgeries. It is NOT certain that this will take place and it is only a possibility. Omega’s contract is currently set to expire in February but could be extended until the end of the year. The Young Bucks, who were also suspended after the brawl, are believed to be under contract until the end of 2023.
Opinion: I can see this being the case, even if it seems unlikely that Omega would actually leave AEW so the extension wouldn’t make much of a difference. Omega was out of action for the better part of a year due to health issues, came back for a handful of matches, and then got suspended indefinitely. AEW was missing its top star for a very long time and there is no telling how long it will be before he is back again. The contract freeze might not sound great, but it is certainly fair from AEW’s side.
What do you think of the idea? When will Omega and the Bucks leave AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
