He’s up next. Titles are what make the wrestling world go around and that can be a fascinating thing to see at any given time. It is the default motivation for a wrestler to want to go after a championship to prove that they are the best, but at the same time, you are going to have some wrestlers who want what comes with being a champion. One such wrestler is doing that in overdrive, but now he has to remain champion.
Kenny Omega has become one of the hottest things in wrestling in the last few weeks as he has become the new AEW World Champion. As a result, Omega is now moving up the ranks in the world and it is only enhanced by the fact that he is already the AAA Mega Champion. Omega successfully defended the AAA title last week, and now he is going to have to do the same thing with the AEW version.
Rey Fenix has been named as Omega’s new #1 contender and will be receiving his title shot on the December 30 edition of Dynamite as part of the New Year’s Smash special. The match was announced by Fenix’s fellow Death Triangle member Pac, who said that Omega never faced Fenix in the #1 contenders tournament earlier this year. Tony Khan had made the match official to end the show.
Fenix was supposed to face Omega earlier this year. Check out what happened instead:
Opinion: This is the kind of match that AEW is smart to run, as the idea of Fenix and Omega doing their crazy offense to each other can work wonders on television. Throw in the fact that Omega beat Fenix to win the AAA Mega Title in the first place and you have a built in story to go along with what you have from Dynamite. This could be awesome and it’s smart to set things up two weeks in advance.
