There’s a history here. John Cena is the biggest wrestling star of his era and there is no way around it. He took his time getting there and there will always be fans who don’t care for him, but Cena is one of the biggest stars ever in wrestling and still is even to this day. While he has mainly gone Hollywood, he’ll still pop up every now and then for an appearance, but now we might know his next match.

One of the biggest reasons that fans want to see Cena back is how important things feel when he is around. Cena is one of those guys who makes everything feel important and that is the kind of thing that you never see otherwise. Anyone he works with is going to get an upgrade and that is what WWE is hoping for with Cena’s WrestleMania 36 opponent, as surprising as it might be.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Cena’s current planned opponent for WrestleMania 36 is Elias, with the idea being that Cena can get him over, even if Elias loses. Cena and Elias have a history, as Elias attacked Cena in early 2018 but Cena interrupted Elias at WrestleMania 35 and laid him out. Assuming the match takes place, it would be Cena’s first match since the January 14, 2019 Monday Night Raw.

They’ve done this before. Check out the history between Cena and Elias:

Opinion: This is a rather unique pick but if this is what Cena wants, so be it. WWE needs him a lot more than Cena needs WWE so you kind of have to do what he wants. I’m not sure if it’s going to help Elias in the long run, but he’s little more than a mascot at this point anyway so Cena doing something goofy with him isn’t going to hurt anything. It might not be what I would pick but I’ll take Cena doing anything over nothing.
