That’s a big one. We are on the way to the end of the year and that means things are picking up for WWE. As a result of the company wrapping up the year and starting the Road To WrestleMania, they are getting back on the live event tour, which will include some rather important matches. We now know what one of those matches will be and it will feature quite the hometown favorite.

Local advertising in Chicago, Illinois is listing CM Punk challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at the company’s upcoming live event at the Allstate Arena on December 29. A cage match between Seth Rollins and Bronson Reed had previously been announced but Reed is out of action following foot surgery. Punk had previously challenged Gunther on Monday Night Raw but shifted back to his feud with Drew McIntyre instead.

Opinion: This is the kind of match that should make for a big showdown, as Punk being in his hometown in a major spot is going to draw interest. Punk is synonymous with the city and WWE knows what it is doing to draw interest in the show. I could see Punk vs. Gunther set up for a big time televised match down the line but for now it is only going to be set up for a select few.
