I hope not. There are some amazingly talented professional wrestlers today and that makes for some outstanding matches and moments. However, as great as they are, there is still no way to guarantee that things will be completely safe. It is made even worse when you factor in how high flying and athletic some of the matches have become, which might have played a role in a recent injury.

This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was built around the first round of a tournament to crown a new #1 contender for the AEW World Title. The tournament will consist of eight men competing for a chance to challenge the World Champion at some point in the future. The first round took place on Wednesday, but one of the winners might have to be out as well.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Fenix was injured during his first round victory over Penta El Zero M. Fenix hit a move off of the top rope and did not seem to be the same after. However, the injury seems to be related to his neck rather than a concussion. Fenix was said to be sore on Thursday, though it is not clear if he will be clear to wrestle Kenny Omega during next week’s semifinals. AEW does not want to postpone the match in order to have the finals announced next week, but they also want the match to take place.

It was a heck of an effort. Check out how Fenix looked before his injury:

Opinion: I can see both sides of this, but ultimately the most important thing is Fenix’s health. You shouldn’t be messing around with a neck injury or possibly a head injury and as much as I would like to see Fenix vs. Omega, it would be better to play it safe if there is any serious doubt about Fenix’s condition. Fenix already wrestles a high risk style. Do you want to make that even worse?
