They’re changing it up. We are in the middle of a major transitioning period for WWE and that includes several changes being made to championships. Earlier this week, WWE introduced a new Women’s Title to replace the Raw Women’s Title and a unification match between the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles and WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles has been announced. Now we know a bit more about how this is being received.

According to Fightful Select, the plans to unify the Women’s Tag Team Titles began as far back as April. Some NXT wrestlers reportedly did not understand why the titles were created in the first place when they were introduced in March 2021. The unified titles are expected to appear in NXT when necessary. In addition, there is confusion over the use of the term “undisputed” in some titles, when there are similar titles on other shows. This is the case with Roman Reigns and Asuka, both of whose titles are described as “undisputed”.

Opinion: This makes sense on both fronts, but especially when it comes to unifying the titles. NXT having its own Women’s Tag Team Titles never made the most sense, as one set of titles throughout WWE seems to be more than enough. It would make sense to just put them together, as there is little to no reason to have them both. On the other hand you have the undisputed ordeal, which feels very much like one of those things WWE did without thinking how much sense it might make. Odds are it will be sorted with a quick change way down the line, only to be changed right back again, as tends to be WWE’s ways.
