Triple shot. The Intercontinental Title has been around for over forty years now and has become one of the most recognized and revered titles in all of wrestling. A who’s who of wrestlers have held the championship over the years and it still means a lot for someone to win it. That was the case with the most recent champion, but now he is going to have a heck of a time keeping it.
This week on SmackDown, Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews was presenting Commander Azeez with a medal. During the segment, Big E., Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens all interrupted, leading to a brawl. Later in the night, WWE official Adam Pearce announced that Crews will defend the title against all three men next week on SmackDown in a fatal four way.
Crews defeated Big E. for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 37. On the same weekend, Owens defeated Zayn in a grudge match. Since the title change, Big E. has continues to fight Crews, as have Owens and Zayn. Owens, Big E. and Zayn have all talked about wanting to become the champion, which each of them have been at some point in the past.
It was a big deal. Check out the brawl and how we got here:
Opinion: This is the kind of match that makes sense, but it also feels like we are in for something big on SmackDown. You don’t need to do that every week, but throwing out some title matches is a great way to bring in some extra interest. The four way stipulation makes a title change seem even more possible and now we could be in for a rather high impact match as a result.
How will the match go? Who leaves with the title? Let us know in the comments below.
