That’s a big one. One of the easiest things in the world to book on a wrestling show is a title match. You don’t really need any kind of a story to set things up, as it can be as simple as naming someone as a challenger and giving them a date on the title match. That is all the story that you need but this time around, an upcoming title match already has all the build it could need.

The biggest story in NXT as of late has been the implosion of the Undisputed Era. Following several years as the top faction in NXT, Adam Cole attacked Kyle O’Reilly at Takeover: Vengeance Day to break the team up once and for all. As a result, it is not clear where things are going for the former members, but now one of them does have a pretty big match scheduled.

During this week’s edition of NXT, an NXT Title match was set for next week as Finn Balor will defend against Cole. The challenge was issued by Balor as a way to get Cole to come to the ring after weeks of silence from Cole following his attack at Takeover. The two have met twice before in NXT, with Cole defeating Balor in December 2019 and Balor defeating Cole to win the vacant title in September 2020.

This was a big night. Check out the challenge, the announcement and the post show war of words between the two:

Opinion: Yeah I’d say that works. This has been one of the bigger rivalries in recent weeks and it makes sense to stack a card with this match on the top. I’m not sure how it is going to go either and that makes for a much more exciting match. Cole winning the title makes sense, but O’Reilly costing him the match does as well. That’s a nice story and hopefully it lives up to expectations.
