It’s been a long time. Retirement is a very tricky situation for wrestlers as they very rarely are able to stay out of the ring. The way wrestling works allows them to get back in the ring as a one off after several years away, meaning very few retirements actually last. One former World Champion has not wrestled in a rather long time, but he did step in the ring again recently.

According to a statement from PROGRESS Wrestling by way of Wrestlingnews.co, former Ring Of Honor World Champion and current broadcaster Nigel McGuinness returned to the ring for the first time in over ten years last month. McGuinness served as the special guest referee for the main event of the Super Strong Style 16 tournament, which saw Kid Lykos defeat Mark Haskins.
During the match, Haskins taunted McGuinness over and over, causing McGuinness, 47, to get physical with him. McGuinness said that this is his first time getting in the ring since his retirement in 2011. This comes after McGuinness teased returning to the ring if AEW All In sells out Wembley Stadium, though nothing has been confirmed.
McGuinness has been a star around the world. Check out some of his in-ring career:
Opinion: This is something rather cool that very well might not lead anywhere, but works as a one off moment. McGuinness is someone almost universally respected in the wrestling business and having him involved in any show, especially one in the United Kingdom, is going to give it a boost. I could go for more of McGuinness in wrestling, even if it doesn’t involve him actually having a match.
What is the best part of McGuinness’ career? Will he wrestle again? Let us know in the comments below.
