He’s There? Surprising Name Competes In Dark Match Before This Week’s SmackDown

Another look? There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and some of them have made their name outside of the professional wrestling industry. Every so often an athlete from another sport will make their name elsewhere and then come into professional wrestling as a star. Amateur wrestling can be that kind of situation as well and now one of its biggest stars ever had one of his most important matches ever this week.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Was Time For A Change: Why Advertised Title Match Did Not Take Place This Week

According to PWInsider.com, this week’s SmackDown dark match saw NXT’s Gable Steveson defeat Cedric Alexander. Steveson has been wrestling in NXT for several months but has only wrestled one televised match since signing with WWE in September 2021. There is no word on why Steveson was brought up for his first dark match or any suggestion that he will be appearing on WWE TV going forward.

Opinion: Steveson is one of those odd situations where he has all kinds of talent and potential but nothing has ever come together. At some point, WWE is going to cut him loos, as he has had one match on television and that was over five months ago. Maybe he’ll come together at some point, but this is out of nowhere and I would be rather surprised if we are suddenly getting a lot more Steveson.
