They still like him. Wrestlers who become big stars in one major promotion have a tendency to stay starts if and when they go elsewhere. Even if there have been several years between their most recent major appearances, there is something about them that connects with the fans in a special way. That seemed to be the case again over the weekend with a big time in-ring return.

Santino Marella wrestled one of his first nationally televised match since 2014 at Impact Wrestling’s Rebellion event. Marella teamed with Dirty Dango and Joe Hendry to beat the Design and Callihan, even soaring the win for his team. While Marella has wrestled in the independents and made an appearances as his sister Santina in the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble, this was his first prominent role in nearly nine years. As a result, several wrestlers and fans weighed in on his performance.

Opinion: Whether you’re a fan or not, there is something cool about seeing a wrestler getting to make this kind of a comeback to the bigger stage after such a long time away. Marella is still someone who is going to get a reaction from the crowd no matter what he does and it was a smart move to have him on this kind of a show. It isn’t something that needs to happen regularly, but for a one off like this, it was rather fun.
