Another honor for the resume. There are stars in wrestling history and then there is the Rock. No wrestler has ever come close to his mainstream success and it is hard to imagine that anyone else will. Rock still does return to WWE from time to time though and that allows him to stay tied to the business. It keeps him in the fans’ minds and that was apparent this week.

As announced on WWE.com, the Rock has won the Greatest SmackDown Superstar Tournament, which was held on WWE.com over the last week, defeating John Cena in the finals. The tournament pitted thirty two of the biggest stars in SmackDown history with fans voting for the winners via social media. The participants were chosen based on their success and impact on the SmackDown brand over the years.

The champ was on hand with the champ. Check out Rock appearing on the premiere of SmackDown on FOX:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised at this one as Rock is one of the biggest stars in the history of wrestling and certainly one of the biggest in the history of SmackDown. The tournament is the kind of thing that WWE can do to have some fun and that seems to be exactly what they did. SmackDown has been around for twenty years and it makes perfect sense for WWE to play up the show’s history.

Do you agree with Rock winning? Who would you have had in the finals? Let us know in the comments below.
