He's Back: CM Punk's First WWE Match Officially Announced For Later This Month

That’s how it starts. Last month, CM Punk made a surprise return to WWE, marking his first appearance with the company in nearly ten years. That is the kind of surprise that opens a variety of options, including a variety of new opponents for Punk to face. The question became what would happen when Punk got back in the ring and now we know who Punk will be facing first.

The Kia Forum in Inglewood, California has announced that Punk will be facing Dominik Mysterio at WWE’s live event on December 30. Should Punk not wrestle before then, this will mark Punk’s first match in WWE since the 2014 Royal Rumble and his first match since AEW All In on August 27. Punk also announced that he will be participating in the 2024 Royal Rumble. It is not clear if he will wrestle on television before then.

Opinion: This is more than a bit of a surprise as I wouldn’t have bet on Punk having his first match outside of pay per view. It isn’t like he hasn’t been in the ring in ten years at all and I was expecting him to have his first match back at a major stage. That being said, he isn’t having a match on TV so they can at least have Punk get in the ring where a limited audience can seen him rather than the masses.
