They’re #1. Tag team wrestling has been a part of wrestling for several decades now and it is not going away anytime soon. While WWE has not exactly treated it as a priority over the years, other promotions have treated tag team wrestling as a slightly more important feature. This is certainly true of AEW, and now one of their teams has earned quite the accomplishment.
Over the course of the year, several wrestlers have left WWE through one way or another, with several of them being released from the company. Several of those names have wound up moving from WWE over to AEW, where some of them have had quite the success. A pair of them have had more success than others and now they are being recognized for their success.
Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) has announced that FTR has topped their inaugural Tag Team 50 list. The rest of the top five includes, starting with #2, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page, Golden Role Models, The North, Street Profits. AEW featured three of the top ten tag teams, with the Lucha Bros also ranking at #7. PWI also regularly releases a men’s and women’s top 100 list, with AEW’s Jon Moxley topping the 2020 men’s list.
Congratulations to @DaxFTR & @CashWheelerFTR for being ranked #1 in the inaugural PWI #TagTeam50!

FTR has been a highlight of AEW. Check out what they have done:
Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised here, other than the fact that I would have thought PWI would have put out a tag team list before this year. What matters the most is that FTR continues to impress, as they are able to come off as one of if not the best team in the world. The other interesting note is that the Young Bucks did not make the list despite being one of the best teams in AEW throughout their history. I would assume they did not meet a requirement for entry, but that is a noteworthy absence.
What do you think of the list? Who was your team of the year? Let us know in the comments below.
