I guess that makes sense. Back in August, Roman Reigns returned to the WWE after several months away and became Universal Champion just a week later. Reigns has dominated SmackDown ever since and there is nothing to suggest that anything is going to stop Reigns anytime soon. That is going to make it difficult to find him a challenger, but WWE might have a solution.
One of the problem with having Reigns as the top start of WWE is that there are only so many wrestlers who can give him a real run for his money. Reigns is so dominant and overpowering that it takes someone special to be a threat. WWE has a limited slate of options on SmackDown at the moment in the first place, which might explain why we are seeing another match.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Reigns will be facing Kevin Owens again because there is no one else on SmackDown to challenge him. Reigns has defeated Owens in three matches already but Owens attacked him again last week on SmackDown. At the moment, Owens is the only challenger available unless someone else is elevated into the main event scene. There is no word on when the next match between Owens and Reigns will take place.
Opinion: I’m not sure what else can be done here as Owens really is one of the only viable options. Daniel Bryan has been on a bit of a losing streak as of late and Big E. is the Intercontinental Champion, meaning WWE is unlikely to want him to lose. That only leaves Owens, even though we have seen this match three times in a row over the last few months. At least they have been good, but that doesn’t make things much better.
