The first ever. There are all kinds of titles under the WWE banner and some of them are for rather specific situations. It can mean a lot when WWE introduces a new title, as that means there is going to be a first champion crowned at some point. That is something only one person can lay claim to doing and now we have seen just that again, or at least we will one day.

Following this week’s SmackDown, WWE taped a match for an upcoming episode of its Speed series. In the match, Ricochet defeated Johnny Gargano to become the first ever Speed Champion. The match is not expected to air until early May, as Gargano had not even participated in the semifinals of the tournament to earn the right to face Ricochet in the matches that have aired to date.

Opinion: I’m not sure what Speed is going to mean in WWE, but it does mean something for Ricochet to win the inaugural title. It’s better than nothing, as Ricochet has been stuck in limbo for a long time now. Having him find this kind of success is a good way to go and we could be in for something more from Ricochet, hopefully with this being the first step forward.
