He Did It: Gunther Reaches Milestone For The First Time In 35+ Years

That’s a long time. WWE has been around for decades and as a result, the company has quite the history book to look through from over the years. This includes wrestlers doing something longer than any other and it can be a big deal when someone reaches a rare mark. That is the case again, as someone has done something for the first time in over thirty five years.

As of this weekend, Gunther has reached the 400 day mark as WWE Intercontinental Champion. This makes Gunther the third person in history to reach this honor, along with Randy Savage and the Honky Tonk Man. Gunther won the title on June 10, 2022 and would break Honky Tonk Man’s record of 454 days as champion on September 8 of this year. He currently does not have a next scheduled title defense.

Opinion: Gunther has dominated the championship for over a year now and at this point, it seems likely that he is going to break the record for longest title reign in history. That is something that is almost hard to fathom and it took over a year to get him here. So far he has wrecked all kinds of major stars and it could be rather fascinating to see just how far he could go with the title.
