He got it. There have been all kinds of title reigns throughout WWE’s history and it can mean a lot when someone wins a championship for the first time. It can mean even more if their reign is a successful one and the longer it lasts, the better. WWE makes it a big deal when someone reaches a milestone, and now someone has reached the biggest milestone in the title’s history.

As of Friday, Gunther has officially surpassed the Honky Tonk Man’s record Intercontinental Title reign at 455 days, making him the longest reigning champion in the title’s history. Gunther practically secured the record on Monday Night Raw, defeating Gunther in his last scheduled title defense. It is not clear when or against whom Gunther is expected to defend his title next.

Opinion: This is literally well over a year in the making and it took thirty five plus years to get to this point. It is interesting to see such a record fall, and now the question is how he might actually lose the title. Gunther has beaten one challenger after another and it is going to be a huge deal when he finally loses the championship. That is going to be a special moment and now it has been upgraded even more.
