Looks like they’re next. Titles can open up a lot of doors for all kinds of wrestlers. It is really easy to come up with a way to present a title match because all you have to do is slot someone in to face a champion. That lets you decide where to go with anything you want, which is the case in WWE as well. Now we know who might be next to go after one of the most prestigious titles in wrestling.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Kevin Owens is the likely next challenger for Apollo Crews’ Intercontinental Title. Owens and Crews were both part of last week’s four way Intercontinental Title match on SmackDown when Aleister Black interfered to take out Big E., seemingly sending them off into their own feud. Owens has been talking about how much he wants the Intercontinental Title in recent weeks.

Owens is a former two time Intercontinental Champion, having held the title in 2015 and 2016. Crews is in his first reign with the title, having defeated Big E. during the second night of WrestleMania 37 in a Nigerian Drum Fight. There is no word on when a potential title match could take place between the two, though Crews defeated Owens to retain the title on the April 23 SmackDown.

This could work out well. Check out the two of them on their own and against each other:

Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens - Universal Title Steel Cage Match: SmackDown, Dec. 25, 2020

Big E vs. Apollo Crews – Intercontinental Title Match: SmackDown, April 30, 2021

Apollo Crews vs. Kevin Owens - Intercontinental Title Match: SmackDown, April 23, 2021

Opinion: This makes a lot of sense and could give us some rather solid matches going forward. Crews is fitting in very nicely with his new role and Owens can have a good feud against anyone. If nothing else, it would be nice to see Owens fighting against the monster Commander Azeez, as it would seem to be right up Owens’ alley. Now just make the whole thing work out.

What do you think of the idea? Will it lead to a title change? Let us know in the comments below.
