Welcome back. The AEW women’s division has been an up and down part of the company since the promotion was founded. Things have not exactly gone well at times but the division has picked up quite a bit in the last several months. The division has gotten even better over the latter part of the year but now we are going to be getting a bit of a blast from the division’s past.

Back in the beginning, the AEW women’s division was dominated by a series of Japanese wrestlers, with Riho as the top star of the whole group. However, the Coronavirus pandemic changed everything and caused several international stars to be stuck overseas. It has been a long time since several of the wrestlers have appeared but that will change in the near future.

During this week on Dynamite, AEW announced that Riho will be returning to the company and taking part in the first round of the Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament to crown a new #1 contender. This will be Riho’s first match in AEW since the March 18, 2020 edition of Dynamite, but she has been wrestling for Stardom in Japan. Riho will be facing NWA Women’s World Champion Serena Deeb in the first round though there was no date given for the match.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that had to happen at some point as Riho was treated as one of the biggest stars in all of AEW. You can only leave her out for so long and it has been over ten months since she has been around. Thankfully she is back, as the division has come a long way since the big time of her run in the company. I’m curious to see how she does, but it could go multiple ways.
