It had to end somehow. There are all kinds of titles in WWE and holding one of them, even one of the lower on the totem pole, means something. Being a champion can be the high point for almost any career, but at some point those title reigns have to come to an end. That can take place in a variety of ways, and now one of the sadder ways has taken place again.

Over the last week, WWE has held its 2023 Draft, where NXT stars have moved up to the main roster. This included NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell, who had no more title defenses scheduled before she moved to Monday Night Raw. This week on NXT, Hartwell announced that she was vacating the title. As a result, a tournament will be held to crown a new champion, with the finals taking place at Battleground on May 28. There were no other details given for the tournament.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that has to be done, as there was no time for the injured Hartwell to not lose the title. She could be on the shelf for a bit and it would be rough to have the title put on ice for such a long time. This way prevents her from losing a title match right before her promotion to the main roster and gives a lot of people something to do in a short order.
