It Didn’t Quite Work: Details On Backstage Disagreements Over Summerslam Match Planning

A little of both. Summerslam has come and gone for the year and there were several big matches on the card. While most of the matches were well received, there were some that did not work out quite as well as others. One in particular had a special set of stipulations that made it rather unique and now we know a bit more about the issues that took place before the match.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They Didn’t Have That: This Special Summerslam Moment Was Not Planned In Advance

One of the featured matches at Summerslam saw Shayna Baszler defeat Ronda Rousey in a mixed martial arts rules match. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Rousey and Baszler had disagreements with WWE over how the stipulations should have gone. This included what constituted mixed martial arts rules, as the rules were not established until the match started. It is not clear what both sides wanted from the match and which of the rules came from either side.

Opinion: This isn’t surprising as the match was kind of all over the place and the rules not being announced in the first place didn’t help. The match didn’t exactly work, as it was some mixture of mixed martial arts and wrestling, which makes for a weird mixture. At least Baszler got the win though, which is the most important part of the whole thing going forward.
