What could have been. Monday Night Raw is a complex show with a lot of moving parts at the same time. Some of these parts might not make the most sense at times as there are a lot of last minute changes that can make things more complicated. That has been the case over the last two weeks, as multiple stories have been changed up and down the show’s roster.
According to Fightful Select, various plans have been changed on Monday Night Raw since WrestleMania 37. The original plans called for Sheamus to continue his feud with Riddle over the United States Title. However, Sheamus has since begun issuing open challenges for matches, even though he has yet to wrestle since winning the title. As a result, Riddle has been free to enter a program with Randy Orton, who he defeated last week and teamed with this week.
Another major change came last week, when Orton was scheduled to face Braun Strowman in a match following up on the previous week’s triple threat #1 contenders match. This match was dropped from creative plans with no explanation, with Strowman instead moving into a program involving Drew McIntyre, Mace and T-Bar. Strowman would then defeat McIntyre this week on Monday Night Raw to be added to the WrestleMania Backlash triple threat match for the WWE Title. There is no word on why these changes were made.
Opinion: This is a good example of how much WWE can really swing from one side to another in such a short amount of time. These stories went from one direction to a completely different one, including a match that WWE advertised itself. You would think that the company would be capable of having some firmer plans in place, but why bother changing what they have done for so many years now?
