He has to fight someone. Late last year, Daniel Bryan made a very surprise heel turn, becoming the new WWE Champion in the process. Bryan hadn’t been doing so well since returning to action back in April at WrestleMania 34 and the turn has done well for him since. Now that he’s champion though he has to defend the title, and after this week’s SmackDown Live, he has a challenger.
AJ Styles became the new #1 contender to Bryan’s WWE Championship when he won a fatal five way match Tuesday night. The match also included Samoa Joe, Mustafa Ali, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio with Styles pinning Orton off a springboard 450 splash. Bryan initially defeated Styles for the title in November and then defeated him again in a rematch at Tables Ladders and Chairs the following month.
The match was quite the spectacle. Check out the rather action packed fight:
Opinion: I prefer this over giving Ali the title shot, as Ali would get the shot, not win the title, and then fall down the card as a result. Let him be built up to a solid midcard role and then see where it goes from there. Styles is the safe bet and he could get cheated out of the title to set up a match at WrestleMania 35 against someone else. Either way, the match is going to be good and that’s always a positive.
Are you happy with the match? Who leaves with the title? Let us know in the comments below.
