Call it a return. Earlier this year, AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling presented Forbidden Door, an event that saw wrestlers from both companies coming together for the first time ever. The concept was certainly different and the show was mostly well received, with AEW President Tony Khan saying he was hoping to run another event next year. It turns out that something similar will happen, but it won’t quite be the same.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW wrestlers are expected to take part in the next New Japan Wrestle Kingdom event on January 4, 2023. There is no word on who will be involved in the show bu tit is said to be some of AEW’s top stars. New Japan wrestlers have appeared on occasion throughout AEW’s history and some AEW stars, including Jon Moxley are regulars in New Japan.

Opinion: This is the latest example of AEW’s expansion, as Wrestle Kingdom is the biggest non-American wrestling event of the year. It means a lot to see the company getting a special role like this with another major company. Both companies could benefit from such a partnership and we could be in for some rather good matches due to all of the talent involved.

What do you think of the idea? Which AEW stars would you like to see at Wrestle Kingdom? Let us know in the comments below.
