Bring Him In? Former World Champion Reportedly Coming To AEW For Special Match

They have a plan. AEW has a large roster and one of the most important things they have to do is keep things updated. It can make a big difference when an established star comes into the fold as they are both well known but also fresh at the same time. Now, with one of AEW’s biggest matches of the year coming up, the company might have another huge name on the way in.

According to Fightful Select, former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kota Ibushi is expected to come to AEW soon. In particular, Ibushi is expected to take part in the July 19 Blood & Guts match, though it is not clear if he will be staying beyond that match. Ibushi’s issues with New Japan have caused some to be worried about him joining AEW, though those issues have since been resolved. AEW has not made an announcement about Ibushi, though two mystery partners have been announced for Blood & Guts.

Opinion: I don’t think it’s any surprise that Ibushi is likely coming to AEW, as it has been rumored so many times before. Kenny Omega and the Elite are going to need some help against the Blackpool Combat Club and bringing in a former IWGP Wold Champion should help quite a bit. What matters is mixing things up a bit and Ibushi would certainly be able to do just that.
