Welcome back! Injuries are one of the worst things that you can see in wrestling for a variety of reasons. In addition to the far more important details of the wrestler’s health, there are also the issues of storylines being messed up. That can change a lot of things for a wrestling promotion, but a wrestler returning can make a big difference. That is exactly what happened this week.
AEW World Champion CM Punk made his return after a two month absence this week on Dynamite. Punk appeared at the end of the show and saved Jon Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club from an attack at the hands of the Jericho Appreciation Society. He also had a staredown with Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, who brushed Punk off to end the show. This was Punk’s first appearance since injuring his foot in early June.
Opinion: This is the kind of a return that has been needed for a long time now as Punk has been out of action for over two months. You can only keep the interim tag on Moxley for the time being so it makes sense to have Punk get back now. I don’t think a showdown at All Out is all that much of a stretch and hopefully they can blow the roof off the place like they are capable of doing.
What did you think of the return? What is next for Punk? Let us know in the comments below.
