It was going to happen either way. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to be injured and some of them take place right in front of your eyes. You never know when you might see someone get put on the shelf for a long time and that is never a good thing. There are also times when it happens at the same time something else goes down and that was what happened this weekend.
Over the weekend, CM Punk won the AEW World Title back from Jon Moxley in the main event of All Out. During the match, Punk seemed to favor his elbow and it was reported that he had suffered a tricep injury. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the injury is a torn muscle that will require surgery. Punk suffered the injury about 5-7 minutes into the match and will require about eight months of recovery. Punk was stripped of the title this week on Dynamite due to his role in a backstage brawl after the show.
Opinion: That is terrible to see, but it does make things a bit easier for AEW with regards to the title scene. The title would have had to be vacated whether the brawl had happened or not so AEW did not have much of a choice but to take it from Punk. I’m not sure if Punk is going to wrestle for AEW again, but if he does, it is going to be a very long time from now for one reason or another.
What do you think of Punk’s time in AEW? Will he wrestle again? Let us know in the comments below.
