You have to give them something. It is no secret that WWE’s television ratings are getting weaker and weaker with every show and that has been the case for a long time now. WWE fans just are not interested in what the company is offering and something has to be done about it. There are various tricks that have been done to fix such a problem over the years and WWE is trying another one now.

So how do you get fans to watch a wrestling show? You can do it in a lot of different ways, but one of the easiest would seem to be by having a big match included. Fans are going to care about star power more than anything else so having the bigger names show up on television for a major match is often going to work. That is going to be the case on next week’s show.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Big Show vs. Randy Orton in an unsanctioned match is taking place on Monday Night Raw instead of at Extreme Rules in an attempt to draw in extra viewers. The match had been teased for the pay per view but never officially announced. During this week’s show, the match was confirmed for the July 20 Monday Night Raw.

They took their time getting here. Check out the build to the match:

Opinion: The idea makes sense, but at the same time I’m curious about how many people are going to be interested in Orton vs. Big Show. There is little hiding the fact that Orton is all but destined to face Drew McIntyre at Summerslam and Big Show isn’t exactly a marquee name these days. What matters here though is delivering something with some substance, rather than a minute long match like we had with Orton vs. Christian last month.

Will this plan work? How else can WWE grow their audience? Let us know in the comments below.
