He’s not a fan. There are all kinds of stars on the AEW roster, many of whom became famous for their time in WWE. It makes sense for AEW to bring in various stars from other promotions as their star power can give AEW an extra boost. That does not mean it is going to be a success every time now and one former World Champion is letting people know how he feels at the moment.

AEW’s Jeff Hardy was a guest on his brother Matt’s Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast and discussed his status in the company. Jeff described feeling “like I was a ghost just walking around backstage” due to not being involved in a cool story. He also discussed bringing back his ego, referencing his time as a heel in Impact Wrestling, “ten times more intense”. Here are some of Jeff’s comments, with transcription courtesy of Fightful:

Jeff On His Current AEW Status:

“When I first came back, it was pretty exciting, I didn’t know what was going to be happening in the near future. The last time I was in this extreme dimension of your podcast, I said in WWE I felt like I was a ghost just walking around backstage. Honestly, I kind of still feel like that at AEW just because not being involved in something cool, and I feel like there is something so special that we have within us to really bring out, and that brings me to things with ego. Honestly, I’m in a place in my life where wearing this Jeff Hardy (shirt), I feel like a goofy goober for wearing my own shirt. ‘Why does this feel so goofy to wear my own shirt?’ My thing has always been, there isn’t much difference between the in-ring performer Jeff Hardy and the reality and human world Jeff Hardy.”

And On How To Improve Things:

“At the show the other night, at the concert, I talked about ego, and another wrestler said, ‘You’ve never had an ego,’ but I think I need to bring my ego back ten times more intense than it was when I was the anti-Christ of professional wrestling. It feels like it’s inevitable. It feels so right. You have to create the moments yourself and when you’re passionate about something, and little by little, we’re eventually going to get there.”

The Hardys wrestled last week on Dynamite, teaming with Brother Zay in a loss to Action Andretti and Top Flight.

The team has had their moments in AEW. Check out the Hardys’ time there:

Opinion: I can’t say I blame Jeff for not being pleased with how things are going in AEW, as he and his brother have not exactly been featured stars in the company. At the end of the day though, Jeff is 46 years old and banged up physically, meaning there is only so much that he can do in the ring these days. Maybe a change could help, but it’s hard to imagine a major Hardys push at the moment.
