One more for the card. We are less than two weeks away from the next NXT Takeover, which is a little surprising as we are only about a month removed from the most recent Takeover. That does not leave much time to set up the show and it is even worse when the locker room is undergoing some Coronavirus issues, meaning the options are limited. Something has to be set up and now another match has been added to the card.

The Women’s Title has been a big part of NXT for a very long time. The promotion was a big part of the Women’s Revolution and even though some of the bigger names have left, the title is still an important deal. That is still the case with Io Shirai as the Women’s Champion but she needs a challenger. Now she has a fresh one and it could be an interesting match.

This week on NXT, Candice LeRae won a battle royal, last eliminating Shotzi Blackheart, to become the new #1 contender to Shirai’s NXT Women’s Title. The title match will take place at Takeover on October 4 in Candice’s first shot at Shirai’s title. The match is the second announced for the card, after Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano, LeRae’s husband, for the North American Title was announced earlier Wednesday.

They have done this before. Check out their previous Takeover match:

Opinion: This is the most logical option that they have and it makes sense to go in this direction. LeRae has been teased as the next challenger for a long time now and NXT has been setting up the idea of LeRae and Gargano as double champions. This makes enough sense and I could see a title change, but Shirai retaining wouldn’t be shocking either. The fact that there is that much doubt makes it more interesting, which is a place where NXT shines.
