It Almost Got Serious: How A Weird WWE Star Almost Got Triple H Fired

I guess he wasn’t a fan. There have been all kinds of ideas throughout WWE’s history and some of them are not the most accepted concepts. Some of them have gone very well, but occasionally WWE will come up with something that just does not work in any way. The worst of the worst have almost cost wrestlers their jobs, but one of them almost cost a major star his job.

Back in June 2006, a new character named Big Dick Johnson debuted in WWE. Portrayed by WWE writer Chris DeJoseph, Johnson was a male stripper character who wore a thong and danced around while covered in baby oil. Bruce Prichard spoke about the character on the latest episode of Something To Wrestle With, revealing that Triple H helped him come up with the idea. According to Prichard, Vince McMahon nearly fired all three of them for introducing the character.

Opinion: While I’m not sure how serious McMahon was about firing everyone involved with Johnson, I can see him not being happy with the idea. McMahon does love comedy in wrestling, but it has to be his idea of comedy. Johnson is a funny idea, but he doesn’t have the longest shelf life. If nothing else, he was a short term joke that lasted longer than he should have, though he did get a chuckle every now and then.
