What could have been. One of the biggest wrestling stories in recent years has been the massive amount of WWE releases. It is almost hard to fathom that many people being let go over the years but that is what we have been seeing over and over. Some of those prominently released WWE names have popped up elsewhere, but now one of them has revealed something that happened to him when he was still in WWE.
Back in April 2020, WWE released Rusev, who has since moved over to AEW, where he wrestles under the name of Miro. One of his last stories in WWE was a feud with Bobby Lashley, who had a storyline affair with Miro’s wife Lana. Miro appeared as a guest on the Kurt Angle Show and revealed that he had been promised a WrestleMania main event for working through the story. He also said that he did not believe that the story was real, saying that he felt it was a rib. The WrestleMania main events in 2020 were AJ Styles vs. Undertaker in a Boneyard match and Drew McIntyre defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title.
Opinion: That last part is what makes this feel more logical, as I could absolutely picture WWE throwing that out there while knowing that there was no chance of such a thing taking place. Considering what we wound up getting in the WrestleMania main event, I’m really not sure I can see WWE putting Miro in any of those spots. Miro could have been a big deal in WWE, but going from the Lashley story to the WrestleMania main event does not seem like it was a reasonable suggestion.
What do you think of Miro? How far could he have gone in WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
