It’s quite the honor. There are all kinds of wrestling opinions out there but just like in anything else, there are some that are going to be seen as more valuable or important than others. Perhaps the biggest of them all outside of a major promotion is that of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which has been reporting on the behind the scenes information in wrestling for over thirty years. The Newsletter also has its own Hall Of Fame and they now have a new class.

Wrestling has changed quite a bit in recent years and a lot of what you are going to see has changed with it. The modern action is often built around acrobatics and high flying with an emphasis on athleticism, which may or may not be your personal cup of tea. There are certainly people who love it though, and one of the most successful wrestlers of this era has received quite the honor.

The 2020 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall Of Fame class has been announced, with the Kenny Omega among the class. Omega has since commented on the induction, saying that it is incredibly humbling and saying he will continue trying to contribute something positive to wrestling as long as he is active. The rest of the class included:

Medico Asesino (CMLL champion in the 1950s)
Dan Kolov (Bulgarian wrestler in the 1910s-1940s)
Karloff Lagarde (Won several titles in Mexico)
Jun Akiyama (Won several titles in various Japanese promotions)

You might have seen them before. Check out Omega and Akiyama in action:

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that is always going to spark quite a bit of debate but there is little way to deny the fact that Omega is one of the biggest and most successful stars in the world today. He has been quite the star and influential on a lot of the younger generation, which is a big part of why he is being honored. Akiyama has been around for a long time as well and has been successful almost everywhere he goes. Throw in the fact that he is currently the President of All Japan and there is little reason to question his status either.

Who else belongs in the Hall of Fame? What is the most prestigious Hall of Fame? Let us know in the comments below.
